Continental Connection – NOT Colgan Connection
05/15/09Slack & Davis aviation attorneys are following the NTSB hearings on the crash of Continental Connection 3407. Mike Slack remarks that the inadequate training, extraneous cockpit banter, lack of oversight by Continental all sound too familiar. “The similarities between Continental Connection 3407 and the evidence we developed in the crash of American Connection 5966 (Kirksville, Missouri) are alarming. These patterns should not be repeating themselves. That points to negligence by Continental and continued apathy by the FAA. Inexcusable.”
Coming at the conclusion of the NTSB hearings into Continental Connection 3407, Mike Slack comments further on the hearings. “I was disappointed that the NTSB did not focus on Continental Airlines’ role in monitoring the flight operations at Colgan. The passengers on Flight 3407 didn’t select Colgan as their air carrier. They selected Continental. Continental scheduled and ticketed them with a Continental-affiliated carrier that turned out to be Colgan.”
More from Mike Slack on the relationship between principal air carriers and their regional commuter affiliates. Slack says, “The public is entitled to know more about how the principal carrier oversees its regional affiliate carriers. Were there detailed safety audits of Colgan by Continental? Did Continental insist on standards for training and flight experience among pilots hired by its regional carriers? Unfortunately, most of the passengers on 3407 justifiably relied on Continental’s reputation when booking their flights and may have erroneously assumed that Continental screened and monitored Colgan. That was certainly not the case with American and its affiliate Corporate Airlines in the crash of American Connection 5966.”
